Seasonal Guide · Ritucharya
The body moves with the year. As the weather turns, so do the doshas — and what nourished you in winter can unsettle you in summer. Ritucharya is the gentle art of adjusting with each season.
This is a preview. The full foods to favour and foods to reduce for each season, along with the seasonal routines to keep you balanced, are detailed inside the Ojavi app.
Late Winter
Shishira · Jan–Feb
Cold deepens, Kapha begins to gather
The coldest, clearest stretch of the year. Digestion is still strong, but as the cold lingers Kapha quietly starts to accumulate in the body, readying for spring. Keep eating warm and nourishing, yet begin to favour a little more lightness and movement than the depths of winter asked for.
Spring
Vasanta · Mar–Apr
Kapha melts and rises
As warmth returns, the Kapha that gathered over winter softens and flows — much as snow melts. This is the season of heaviness, congestion and spring sluggishness. Lighten the diet, wake the body with movement, and favour pungent, bitter and astringent tastes to clear the accumulation.
Summer
Grishma · May–Jun
The sun is sharp, Pitta provokes
The sun is at its most intense and the body heats up. Strength can run low, so favour cooling, hydrating and lighter food, and keep activity to the cooler hours of morning and evening. This is the time to soothe Pitta and protect your fluids.
Monsoon
Varsha · Jul–Aug
Vata rises, Agni runs weak
Damp, cool and changeable weather unsettles the body and leaves digestion at its most fragile of the year. Vata becomes easily disturbed. Keep meals warm, light and well-spiced, protect a delicate Agni, and stay warm and dry.
Autumn
Sharad · Sep–Oct
Heat surfaces, Pitta peaks
After the rains, the heat held through the monsoon surfaces and Pitta reaches its peak. The body is sensitive and easily overheated. Favour cooling, sweet, bitter and astringent foods, and let the diet settle and calm rather than stimulate.
Early Winter
Hemanta · Nov–Dec
Cold outside, Agni strongest within
The cold draws the body's heat inward and digestion becomes its strongest of the whole year. This is the season to nourish deeply, build strength and tissue, and eat heartily — warmth and fats keep the cold, dry quality of Vata in check.
